With a faculty size of more than a dozen members, whose areas of expertise covering most of the topics in FinTech and Financial Engineering, the FTEC Thrust at HKUST(GZ) has the strength and unique position in the Greater Bay Area to offer a decent and well-structured MSc degree in FTFE. Location is also important. It is relatively easy for the FTEC Thrust to reach out to financial firms in nearby cities to build strong internship programs.</div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 16px;line-height:1.5\">Graduates from our MSc(FTFE) can find career opportunities as quants, analysts or consultants in various financial institutions. They will be capable of identifying and analyzing FinTech and Financial Engineering related problems arising in financial markets, developing new quantitative models for financial data analysis, forecasting market behavior while accounting for the inherent risks, and many other tasks.</div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 16px;line-height:1.5\">The FTEC Thrust is established under the Society Hub at HKUST(GZ) with the aim of building research strength in FinTech, establishing strong liaison with financial industries for applied research, and training students to work in the exciting and growing industry in FinTech and Financial Engineering. The FTEC Thrust has faculty expertise that can offer comprehensive and interdisciplinary training for graduates in FinTech and Financial Engineering. Our faculties specialize in most areas of FinTech and Financial Engineering, including blockchain, machine learning, digital assets, finance, algorithmic trading, risk management, quantitative finance, and others. Students are required to undertake a continuous internship of six months' duration, jointly supervised by one academic supervisor from HKUST(GZ) and one industrial supervisor.</p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px\">The internship will involve the submission of two formal reports: an Open Topic Report and a Final Report. Each report will be accompanied by an oral examination of approximately one hour. The Open Topic Report will be assessed on the scientific value, feasibility, and technical challenges of the proposed topic, while the Final Report will be evaluated on the progress of industry collaboration, the quality of the final deliverables, and the learning outcomes achieved by the student.</p></div><p><span style=\"color:hsl(214,67%,34%);\"><strong>6. &nbsp;Project</strong></span></p><p><span style=\"color:hsl(214,67%,34%);\"><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp;</strong></span> &nbsp;3 credits</p><p>{{FTFE 6820}}</p><div class=\"raw-html-embed\"><p style=\"padding-left: 20px\">Students are required to undertake a one-term independent project addressing real-world industry problems in the areas of FinTech and financial engineering. The project will be supervised by a faculty member at HKUST(GZ) and will culminate in both a written report and an oral defense. Topics will be sourced from industry to ensure practical relevance.
